Quality of Life

Careers at GW

Vermont

If you enjoy small-town living, you won’t find better places to put down roots than Bethel or Royalton, Vermont. Both communities offer a good choice of moderately priced homes, well-run schools, active local governments and neighbors with values similar to yours. Other communities like rural Quechee, Vermont or urban Lebanon, New Hampshire offer similar amenities. Over 80% of the commuters in the area travel less than 30 minutes to work, enjoy numerous cultural and social activities while enjoying beautiful views, clean air and water that are all part of the package.

Summer or winter, there’s plenty to do. Fishing, golf, skiing and other recreational opportunities abound. Attend lectures or a film festival at Dartmouth College; browse galleries and shops in Woodstock; ride the chair lift at Killington when fall foliage is at its peak. In the spring, don't miss the riot of color at the Standing Stone Perennial Gardens right in Royalton. Or if you prefer, you can drive a couple of hours to the excitement of Boston or Montreal.

The Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in nearby Hanover, New Hampshire is one of the leading medical institutions in the country. It’s among the top 10 U.S. health care facilities providing “mother friendly” and “baby friendly” care.

The Quechee Balloon Festival draws thousands of onlookers every June to watch the colorful display.

Employment Opportunities

San Antonio, TX

Located in a pleasant wooded area of spring-fed streams at the southern edge of the Texas Hill Country, San Antonio has mild, snowless winters and long, hot summers. Its unique charm juxtaposes Spanish colonial plazas and ancient cypress trees with modern attractions such as the Hemisphere sports arena and Six Flags Fiesta Texas theme parks. The city’s art museums and theaters are among the state’s finest, as are its many municipal golf courses.

The GW Plastics plant is in an industrial area of San Antonio proper, but many of our employees live in the suburbs northwest of the city. Newcomers are struck by the friendliness of the people and the relaxed, casual lifestyle. They’re also impressed with the area’s low cost of living.

Located in downtown San Antonio, and a short distance from the GW Plastics plant site, the Alamo’s grounds and buildings present a serene environment where visitors can contemplate nearly 300 years of history.

Employment Opportunities

Tucson, AZ

A prime tourist destination, Tucson is one of the longest continually inhabited areas in North America (NAFTA region). It has been home to various Native American tribes, Spanish settlers and American pioneers.

With 350 days of sunshine per year, Tucson is beautiful, fun and exciting. It’s the perfect place for golf. There are nearly 40 golf courses, public and private, in the area. Tennis is also available city wide. Hiking is a great way to enjoy the desert environment, and snow skiing is available from late December through April.

GW employees will find housing available over a wide price range, with more expensive neighborhoods in the foothills area north of the city. Schools are good, shopping is plentiful and there’s plenty to do. Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tempe are close by. Popular attractions include the waterfalls at Sabino Canyon, the giant cacti at Saguaro National Park and the Grand Canyon. The beauty of the Grand Canyon is awesome. Here you can enjoy horseback rides along narrow trails, white water rafting, or spectacular airplane or helicopter tours.
