Historical Background

Company

Founded in Bethel, Vermont in 1955, GW Plastics is a closely held full-service precision injection molder and contract manufacturer. GW Plastics was founded by John Galvin and Odin Westgaard, two well-respected early plastics pioneers.

After building GW into one of the largest and most requested precision custom injection molders in North America (NAFTA region), they sold the business to Carborundum in 1973. Two more acquisitions resulted in GW being owned by Standard Oil of Ohio (Sohio). In 1983 the inside management group of GW, led by Frederic Riehl, purchased the company from Sohio.

Since that time, GW has grown steadily, expanding into Asia and Mexico focusing on close tolerance precision molding and assembly serving the automotive, healthcare, consumer/industrial and filtration markets. We rank in the top 100 injection molders in North America (NAFTA region).

GW is profitable, has a strong balance sheet and has never shown an annual operating loss in the history of the company. GW Plastics’ customer base consists of market leading companies such as Robert Bosch, Siemens, Takata, Johnson & Johnson, Boston Scientific, Medtronic, and Pall Corp.
